From Peru

Genes

The name "Genes" (heh-ness) comes from us — Carolina and Juan Miguel — cousins who started the brand in our family's garment workshop in Lima.As the 3rd generation in our family working with knitwear & Peruvian fibers, we hope to honor family tradition, while exploring modern designs inspired by Peru’s landscapes, colors & textures.

Since childhood, we’ve witnessed firsthand the skill & care that go into every garment.

EVERY STEP OF THE PROCESS INVOLVES THE HANDS OF ONE OF OUR SKILLED PERUVIAN ARTISANS. IT TAKES AROUND 6 HOURS TO MAKE A GENES PIECE.

This photo is taken in our family garment workshop. Family is the very foundation of Genes.

Our grandparents & parents' 30 years of experience in knitwear—from logistics guidance to mastering the most intricate knitting techniques—have been instrumental in shaping our vision.

Each stage of our production process is carried out by highly qualified local craftsmen who have worked with the family for many years and have watched us grown up.

Our deep respect for the beauty of Peruvian landscapes inspired us to prioritize sustainability in our practices.

We use organic Peruvian Pima cotton - it has exceptional softness & durability due to its long, fine fibers. The decomposition time for organic cotton is 5 months compared to polyester which takes 100 years.
